Who we are and what we are doing
In the beginning, before brainLight was founded, there was a journey. This took the founding family Jochen Hufgard, Ursula Sauer and daughter Sabrina Sauer to the USA at the end of the 1980s. The aim was to get to know audio-visual relaxation in its country of origin. The enthusiasm generated by their travel experiences gave rise to brainLight GmbH and the motto “Life in Balance” in 1988. Since then, we have increased the quality of life of our customers with brainLight-Systems, whereby people and their lives are always at the center of our activities.
Until then, having light-filled experiences was reserved for die-hard yogis and people who meditate. Audio-visual relaxation systems, such as those marketed by brainLight GmbH from then on, spread this idea further and made it accessible to larger target groups. At the touch of a button, such experiences were now accessible to far more people than before. The beauty of this is the simplicity with which well-being was now possible. Users can get in touch with themselves again, perceive themselves with all their senses and find their own center, virtually without having to do anything. Just one year after brainLight GmbH was founded in 1989, vacationers in many Aldiana vacation clubs were relaxing audio-visually on air mattresses using headphones and visualization glasses.
The brainLight-Relaxation-Sessions were later expanded to include a seminar concept developed by brainLight especially for Aldiana vacationers. In addition, the training course to become a “Certified Trainer for Mental Fitness”, recognized by the DGMT (German Society for Mental Training), was launched in 1995. Like all brainLight-Products, the training was based on the premise of seeing people as a whole and making the mission of “Well-Being for all” possible. In 2005, massage chairs complemented the audio-visual systems and provided physical relaxation.
The company's managers developed a concept to combine audio-visual relaxation and Shiatsu massage via an interface. Both components relax the user synergistically. brainLight developed two versions, the Synchro for predominantly private use and the relaxTower for commercial use. The respective program with light, well-being-tone, music and speech is selected via the keypad and, in the case of Complete-Systems, a Shiatsu Massage Chair is activated. Numerous other programs can be added to the basic configuration of the systems.
The Synchro PRO and the relaxTower PRO are currently the latest generation of stationary brainLight-Systems. Since 2020, thanks to further software development, it has been possible to call up three-digit program-number combinations and thus a more diverse range of programs. In their combination of relaxation technology for body and mind, brainLight-Products are unique in the world.
A growing business segment opened up as early as 2006, when Unilever began to integrate the light-filled relaxation of brainLight-Systems into its Corporate Health Management (CHM). In the years that followed, other well-known companies and institutions such as Deutsche Post, Siemens, Lufthansa, BMW, Swarovski, Deutsche Bahn, Datev, Opel, VW and Villeroy & Boch joined them. The company also conducted a study with the market research institute EuPD Research on the topic of stress resilience. The survey confirmed the return on investment of stress prevention measures.
From 2011-2015, brainLight was a partner of the Corporate Health Award, the most prestigious award for CHM in Germany. In addition, in 2012 the Healthy Workers Study with Schwenninger Krankenkasse and Furtwangen University explored the questions: “Can stress be measured?” and “How can stress be reduced?”. A partnership with the “Healing Hotels of the World” rounded off the cooperation spectrum. The alliance includes 85 hotels worldwide. These leading hotels and resorts for holistic health have made it their mission to improve the lives of their guests holistically and sustainably.
The company entered into partnerships with universities at an early stage. The collaboration with Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) is outstanding. The project “More health literacy through sustainable awareness-raising”, which has been running since 2016 and is being evaluated by H-BRS, has now demonstrably led to more health literacy in over 180 companies with over 4,400 employees (as of 12/2023). Two further projects on efficient regeneration breaks and on measures following a psychological risk assessment in the field of “stress management” in companies complement the cooperation with H-BRS.
The whole thing is rounded off by the in-house surveys, such as the Healing Study. Here too, H-BRS is responsible for the evaluation. 10 audio-visual “ Healing Meditations for the Internal Organs” provide powerful support for the body's self-healing powers. To prove the effect of the programs, brainLight has been conducting this study since July 2018. Over 2,600 health-conscious participants have now taken part in the study. The latest results can be found here. Since the end of 2021, the Clever-Study has supplemented the extensive range of programs with around 160 participants. The study examines the influence of the brainLight-Systems using the Clever-Programs on the learning behavior and learning success of the participants.
As an owner-managed company, brainLight assumes responsibility and is committed to the progress and well-being of mankind. The aim of brainLight GmbH is to improve people's quality of life and the (r)evolution of consciousness with the help of relaxation systems. Since 1992, brainLight has been present at trade fairs and events where people from a wide range of industries and backgrounds come together. The medium-sized company is now present as a wellness service provider at almost 80 trade fairs a year in Germany alone. Managing Director Jochen Hufgard explains this as follows: “Basically, in an age characterized by productivity mania and a hectic pace, we have products that everyone needs. Because the aim of human beings is to find themselves”.

As a result of the Corona Pandemic, brainLight GmbH designed the "Days of Relaxation" in spring 2020 as a new platform with specialist presentations, testing opportunities and special offers. Numerous prestigious awards in recent years prove that the need for mindfulness and relaxation has reached the heart of our society.
